Tips for a Successful Interview

1.    Do your homework
Before attending a job interview, it is very important for you to do your research. Find out as much as possible about the company and its products and services. That way you'll be prepared to ask the interviewer questions and answer interview questions. You will also be able to find out whether or not a company is a good culture fit for you.

Here's what you can do:
- Visit the Company Website
- Use LinkedIn
- Google and Google News

2.    Dress for success
It's important to create a good first impression. Dress like a professional. Plan ahead so that you don't have to struggle at the last minute about what to wear. No denim and no sneakers. Don't try a new haircut or style, but if necessary do get a haircut about a week before your interview. Makeup and jewelry should be moderately. Being clean and neat is most important. You should walk into that interview dressed as a person who already has the job.

3.    Don’t be late
It is an unwritten law that you have to arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled interview. Being on time says something about your professionalism. Leave your place early so that you don’t have to rush and be tired the moment you arrive. Organize your time in a way that you are prepared for unexpected events like traffic jams etc.

4.    Bring hard copies of your resume, professional certifications, reference letters and work samples
Interviewers don’t always have a copy of your resume available and you will seem ultra-prepared if you have extras. Make sure they are organized and easy to find. You don’t want to look clumsy and have to take everything out of your briefcase.

5.    Bring a note book or pad of paper and a pen
This way, you can take notes or even write down your questions if you tend to get nervous.

6.    Use a firm handshake and direct eye contact
A limp handshake or lack of eye contact can make you appear ill-at-ease and possibly less than honest.

7.    Be friendly and gracious
Make sure you greet everyone in a friendly and professional manner. An interview is not the time to be shy. A warm smile goes a long way toward establishing a good first impression and rapport with the interviewer.

8.    Relax and be yourself
Often people stress over a job interview. Your best bet is to focus on yourself and be the best, professional version of yourself, and look at an interview as an adventure. You are likely to learn something new and useful, even if you aren’t the right person for the job.

9.    Pay attention to body language
Smile, when appropriate. And pay attention to details like sitting straight, don't fold your arms on your chest, avoid yawning etc.

10. Engage and ask questions
Your interview is a conversation, don’t make it one-way. You want a dialogue, not a monologue. Make sure you have prepared a few questions. Typically, interviewers measure your interest in the position by whether you ask questions. Ask about the next step in the process etc.

11. Save the money for later
Don't allow yourself to be badgered by the salary issue.

12. Write a thank-you email quickly
Thank the interviewers at the end of the interview. And immediately send a thank you email to every person who interviewed you. Don’t wait. Make sure you spell their names correctly. Writing thank-you email will definitely create a positive impression.
